- pay for college school without having to work a minimum wage job
- Do something I enjoy doing
- learn necessary skills to eventually start a bigger business
Little did I know the million dollar pay day I would receive after a year of being in business.
A friend and I started a portable photo booth business where we would bring our home-made photo booth to events. Photo booths at weddings became very popular, and since we lived in Utah county...let's just say business was booming.
My friend and I took turns working the events. We were getting most of our business from weddings, but occasionally we would work other types of events.
In early 2012 I just graduated college and I felt like I needed to do something big. I was scheduled to bring my photo booth to a dance party at utah valley university, but I called my business partner and asked him to do it because I needed to get away.
I packed up my car and just started driving south with Southern California as a possible destination. About 10 miles into my journey I had felt like I should not go and to turn around and drive back home. I returned home and immediately called my business partner letting him know I would be available to work the dance party that weekend.
My business partner had nothing else going on that Friday so he ended up coming with me to the event. Like any other natural single male, I began scoping around seeing if there were any pretty girls at this event. Most of the girls looked like freshman girls, and with me being 26, it didn't look like the best event to meet a girl. However, about two hours into the event, I grabbed my business partners attention and said, " there is one, I have GOT to meet her.
10 minutes later she was in my line. Oh great, my heart is pounding... quick Chris think of something funny and witty to say when she gets closer. She was now right next to me. I consider myself for the most part to be pretty good with talking to girls. Not this time. I had nothing. Luckily she broke the silence with a phrase I will never forget since it was the first words I heard from her beautiful face, "so do you like working here"?
Two years after starting my business, Prints Charming Photo Booths, I can honestly say, yes I love working here. Even if I never make another penny from this business, it will still be worth it because it already has given me my "million dollar pay day".
Thank you Ashley for everything, thank you for breaking the ice, thank you for attending every photo booth job with me since that day, and thank you for your love.
Happy Valentines Day.
Chris Walker
